An increasing number of libraries around the world are embracing transformative technologies such as FOLIO and Linked Data to help them meet evolving user needs. The recent WOLFCon event provided valuable insights and inspiration for library professionals, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for these innovative solutions.
A Catalyst for FOLIO Adoption
WOLFCon, a prominent gathering for library professionals, has emerged as a significant catalyst for libraries considering FOLIO. It’s a platform where libraries, representing libraries of all types, come together to explore the possibilities of FOLIO. The positive feedback and enthusiasm expressed by attendees reinforce the belief that FOLIO is becoming a tangible reality.
One attendee shared, “FOLIO to us equals empowerment. We have a voice, we can use transparent APIs, we can have a system for OUR library needs.” This sentiment echoed throughout the event and underscored the value of FOLIO in meeting library requirements.
Building Custom Solutions
The event featured various sessions where libraries of all sizes showcased "helper apps" developed using FOLIO APIs to address specific challenges. Some even went so far as to creatively leverage FOLIO APIs to build application integrations for cross-purpose requirements–not just individual institutional needs but consortium tooling too. FOLIO “out of the box” features are still in development, but the open and robust APIs allow for unique needs, demonstrating the flexibility and adaptability of the system.

The Folio system is something I want to become an active participant in in the UK.
